About Ashutosh Tripathy
Ashutosh Tripathy is a food engineer and a PhD (Tech) candidate in Food Engineering and Technology at the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai, formerly UDCT. His doctoral research, supported by a CSIR Junior Research Fellowship from February 2021 to February 2024, covers food waste utilisation, process optimisation, kinetic modelling and process equipment design under Dr Snehasis Chakraborty.
He holds a B.Tech in Food Technology from ANGRAU (gold medal for the highest OGPA in his batch), an M.Tech in Food Process Engineering and Management from NIFTEM-K, Kundli, and a master's programme in data analytics from Simplilearn and IBM (R, Python and Tableau). He has qualified GATE (XE) three times (2017, 2018, 2024) and UGC NET for assistant professor twice (June 2020, December 2023).
In June 2023 he set up the Mumbai Smart Protein Project with the Good Food Institute to support alternative protein research in India. In 2025 the Union Public Service Commission recommended him for Assistant Director Grade-I at the Office of the Development Commissioner, Ministry of MSME, in the Indian Enterprise Development Service (IEDS). He also teaches and mentors, and has coached students through GATE. His writing for DietXP covers food processing, food waste and ingredient science.
