Diabetes care in India

Type 2 diabetes and Indian food, region by region

The ICMR-INDIAB study (2023) found diabetes in 11.4% of Indian adults aged 20 and over and prediabetes in a further 15.3%. We help you fit rice, roti, sweets and festival meals into your doctor’s plan.

Rice, roti and sweets

Having type 2 diabetes does not mean every familiar food is off the table. The amount, combination and timing of food can all matter, whether your staple is rice, roti, millets or poha.

Fasts and festivals

We help plan Navratri, Ekadashi or Ramzan fasts and festival sweets within your doctor’s advice. If you take insulin or certain tablets, check with your doctor before fasting.

Bring your HbA1c and prescriptions

Share your latest HbA1c or sugar readings, your medicines and your doctor’s advice. We plan portions, meal timing and fasting days around them and never change medicines.

Alongside your doctor in India

In India you can see a physician, diabetologist or endocrinologist directly, without a referral. Bring their advice and reports, and your food plan will follow them.

Getting ready

What to have ready for your diabetes consultation

You do not need to send reports before booking. We tell you how to share them before your consultation.

  • Your latest HbA1c and fasting or after-meal sugar readings
  • Your medicines, including insulin doses and timings
  • Any low sugar episodes: when they happened and what you had eaten
  • Your doctor’s advice about food and sugar targets
  • What you eat on a usual day, including tea, snacks and sweets

Type 2 diabetes consultation: your questions answered

Do I have to stop eating rice or roti?

Not automatically. Portions, meal combinations and your individual care plan matter. Your DietXP expert and your doctor can help you work through what is appropriate for you.

How much does the diabetes consultation cost?

₹2,950, including 18% GST (₹2,500 + ₹450 GST). It covers the consultation, your written diabetes food plan and a short call to explain it. Nothing else is added when you pay.

How do I pay?

By bank transfer (NEFT, RTGS or IMPS) or UPI, after we confirm your booking in writing. We send the payment details on WhatsApp or by email.

When will I get my written plan?

Is the consultation online?

Yes. The consultation and the explanation call are both online. We agree the call format and the time with you when we confirm your booking.

Can I reduce or stop diabetes medicines?

Only your prescribing doctor should change medicines. Do not reduce or stop them because you start a food plan or see a different sugar reading.

Is fasting or a very low-carbohydrate diet required?

No. Major changes to meals or fasting can affect sugar levels and may be unsafe with insulin or some medicines. Discuss them with your doctor before making changes.

Can you help me plan for fasts and festivals?

Is this suitable for type 1 or pregnancy diabetes?

No. This consultation is for adults with type 2 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes and diabetes in pregnancy need support from the appropriate specialist team.

Can my family join?

Yes. The person who cooks or helps with meals is welcome on both calls. If you are contacting us for someone else, please let them know. We ask for their agreement before we discuss their health.

Do I need a doctor’s referral?

No. You can book directly. Please bring your latest reports and your doctor’s advice to the consultation, so the food plan fits your treatment.

What happens after the explanation call?

Your consultation is complete. Follow-up consultations are not included. If you would like more support later, message us and we will explain the options and the fee before you book.
