⚕️ VO₂max estimates from field tests and non-exercise equations are population-level approximations. Individual error (SEE) is typically 3–5 ml·kg⁻¹·min⁻¹. For elite selection, clinical diagnosis, or precise training prescription, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) with gas analysis is the gold standard. Cooper test results are valid only with near-maximal effort on a standardised track. Non-exercise estimates are suitable for screening and group comparisons.
