Before you book

Is a PCOS programme right for you?

It suits you if

  • Your doctor or clinic has diagnosed your PCOS (PMOS) and you are 18 or older
  • You want regular Indian meals for busy weeks, made with food from Japanese supermarkets and Indian grocery shops or online stores
  • You want food support for energy, cravings or weight, without strict bans
  • You take medicines or are under fertility care and want your meals to fit that plan

See your doctor first if

  • You have not been diagnosed yet: irregular periods, acne or extra hair growth need a doctor’s check first
  • Your periods have stopped or changed suddenly
  • You are pregnant or planning a pregnancy: your doctor’s plan comes first

DietXP helps with food. Diagnosis, tests and medicines stay with your doctor and care team.

PCOS care in Japan

PCOS and PMOS care in Japan

Japan uses its own criteria to diagnose PCOS (JSOG 2024): irregular periods, polycystic ovaries or a high AMH level, and high androgens or LH, all three together. Your doctor in Japan may use these rather than the Rotterdam criteria used elsewhere.

Alongside your doctor in Japan

In Japan you can go straight to a local clinic. Public health insurance (National Health Insurance or your employer’s plan) usually pays 70% of the cost and you pay 30%. Large hospitals charge an extra fee, from JPY 7,000, for a first visit without a referral letter. The AMDA International Medical Information Center (0120-339-266 or 03-6233-9266) helps you find clinics where your language is spoken.

Indian food in Japan

Nishi-Kasai in Tokyo’s Edogawa ward has Japan’s best-known Indian community, and Indian groceries can also be ordered online. We work with Japanese staples such as rice, tofu, fish, noodles and konbini meals, alongside the Indian ingredients you can get.

Practical details

  • Japan is 3½ hours ahead of India.
  • Fees are in JPY and are the full amount you pay.
  • In an emergency call 119 for an ambulance.

Japanese staples, Indian flavours

We combine Japanese staples such as rice, tofu and fish with Indian food you enjoy, focusing on regular meals, fibre and protein rather than strict bans.

Nutrition education and practical food support. Diagnosis, medicines and medical treatment stay with your treating team.

Getting ready

What to have ready for your first consultation

You do not need to send reports before booking. We tell you how to share them before your first consultation.

  • Your latest health check report (kenkō shindan) and any clinic results
  • Recent reports, such as ultrasound, hormone, thyroid or blood sugar tests
  • Your period dates for the last few months
  • Your medicines and supplements
  • What you eat on a usual day, including work meals and snacks

PCOS support in Japan: your questions answered

Is there one best diet for PCOS?

No single diet composition has been shown to be best for everyone with PCOS. A sustainable approach should reflect your preferences, health needs and circumstances.

How much do the PCOS programmes cost in Japan?

Core (3 months) is JPY 56,491 and Extended (6 months) is JPY 107,489. These are the full prices, with nothing added when you pay.

What does each programme include?

Both start with a first consultation and a written food plan within 2 working days. Core adds 3 scheduled follow-ups and WhatsApp support during agreed hours. Extended adds 6 follow-ups, priority WhatsApp support, a nutrition progress assessment at 90 days and a full progress report at 180 days.

How do I pay?

After we confirm your booking in writing, we send the payment details on WhatsApp or by email. You pay the fee in JPY; payment goes to DietXP in India, so your bank may add a cross-border fee.

When will I get my written plan?

Within 2 working days of your first consultation. Your follow-ups, booked on Japan time, then review how it is going and adjust the plan.

Which languages can I use?

English, Hindi or Kannada, with Maria. Tell us which you prefer when you message us.

What time are the sessions?

Japan is 3½ hours ahead of India. We book a time that suits you.

Will this programme focus only on weight loss?

No. Your goals should be discussed with you. Health-supporting habits matter even without weight loss, and conversations about weight should be respectful and only part of a wider picture.

Can food support replace medicines or fertility care?

No. Decisions about medicines, menstrual symptoms and fertility treatment belong with your treating clinician. Nutrition support can complement, not replace, that care.

Will I need to avoid rice, dairy or gluten?

These foods are not automatically excluded because you have PCOS. We consider your preferences and any confirmed allergies, intolerances or other medical advice before discussing changes.

Is PCOS now called PMOS?

Yes. In May 2026 an international consensus published in The Lancet renamed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) as polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), because the condition affects hormones and metabolism, not just the ovaries, and does not involve harmful cysts. Health services are switching over gradually, so you will see both names for a while. It does not change the food support we offer.

My PCOS was diagnosed in India. Is it the same in Japan?

Japanese doctors may apply the JSOG 2024 criteria, which need all three features rather than two. Bring your earlier reports to your doctor in Japan. We help with everyday food either way.

Is this covered by Japanese health insurance?

No. DietXP is a private online service from India. Your clinic can advise on local dietitian services, and you can use DietXP alongside them.

Can my family join?

Yes. The person who cooks or helps with meals is welcome on your calls, whether they live in Japan or in India. If you are contacting us for someone else, please let them know. We ask for their agreement before we discuss their health.

What happens when my programme ends?

You can finish there or ask about continuing. We explain the options and the fee before you book anything new.
