IBS care in the UK

IBS and Indian food in the UK

UK guidance from NICE starts with simple diet and lifestyle advice for IBS. If symptoms continue, it says specialist diets such as low FODMAP should be guided by a healthcare professional with expertise in dietary management.

Alongside your GP and the NHS

In the UK your GP is the first stop for diagnosis, tests and prescriptions, and can refer you to an NHS dietitian if you need one. DietXP does not replace that care. We help you turn the advice you already have into Indian meals you can cook and enjoy.

Indian food in the UK

Atta, dals, spices and fresh curry leaves are easy to find in areas such as Southall, Wembley, Leicester and Birmingham, and most large supermarkets have a world foods aisle. We plan around what you can buy, and around meal deals, packed lunches and eating out.

Practical details

  • Online sessions at times that suit UK hours. India is 4½ hours ahead of UK summer time and 5½ hours ahead in winter.
  • Fees are in GBP and are the full amount you pay.
  • For urgent medical advice call NHS 111 (England, Scotland and Wales); in Northern Ireland, call your GP or the GP out-of-hours service. In an emergency call 999.

Low FODMAP, with Indian food

Many Indian staples, including wheat roti, onion, garlic, rajma and chana, are high in FODMAPs. If an NHS dietitian or another professional with expertise in dietary management has started you on a low-FODMAP plan, we can suggest Indian dishes that fit the food lists they gave you. The elimination and reintroduction stages stay with them.

Nutrition education and practical food support. Diagnosis, medicines and medical treatment stay with your treating team.

Getting ready

What to have ready for your first consultation

You do not need to send reports before booking. We tell you how to share them before your first consultation.

  • Letters from your GP or hospital, and any NHS test results
  • Any food lists or low-FODMAP plan from an NHS dietitian
  • A simple diary of meals and symptoms for one or two weeks, if you can
  • Your medicines and supplements
  • What you eat on a usual day, including work meals, snacks and eating out

IBS support in the UK: your questions answered

Do I need an IBS diagnosis first?

This support is for adults with diagnosed IBS. If symptoms are new, unexplained or changing, see a doctor first rather than assuming they are IBS.

How much do the IBS programmes cost in the UK?

Core (3 months) is GBP 269 and Extended (6 months) is GBP 512. These are the full prices, with nothing added when you pay.

What does each programme include?

Both start with a first consultation and a written food plan within 2 working days. Core adds 3 scheduled follow-ups and WhatsApp support during agreed hours. Extended adds 6 follow-ups, priority WhatsApp support, a nutrition progress assessment at 90 days and a full progress report at 180 days.

How do I pay?

After we confirm your booking in writing, we send the payment details on WhatsApp or by email. You pay the fee in GBP; payment goes to DietXP in India, so your bank may add a cross-border fee.

When will I get my written plan?

Within 2 working days of your first consultation. Your follow-ups, booked on UK time, then review how it is going and adjust the plan.

Which languages can I use?

English, Hindi or Kannada, with Maria. Tell us which you prefer when you message us.

What time are the sessions?

Online sessions at times that suit UK hours. India is 4½ hours ahead of UK summer time and 5½ hours ahead in winter.

Will I have to stop eating Indian food?

Not automatically. The conversation starts with your usual meals and individual tolerance. We can explore practical alternatives without assuming an entire cuisine is unsuitable.

Is low-FODMAP part of every programme?

No. It is not necessary or suitable for everyone. If your GP or specialist recommends it, ask for support from a professional with expertise in dietary management, such as an NHS dietitian, for a short trial, reintroduction and personalisation. It should not become an indefinite list of forbidden foods.

Can the programme promise symptom relief?

No specific outcome is guaranteed. Symptoms can have several influences, and food changes that help one person may not help another. Your medical care remains important.

Do I need a GP referral for IBS support in the UK?

You do not need a referral to enquire. Please see your GP first if your symptoms are new or changing, or if you notice warning signs such as bleeding from the bottom or weight loss you cannot explain, because IBS should be diagnosed by a doctor.

Is this available on the NHS?

No. DietXP is a private online service from India, so it is not NHS-funded. If you would like to see an NHS dietitian, ask your GP about a referral. You can use DietXP alongside your NHS care.

Can my family join?

Yes. The person who cooks or helps with meals is welcome on your calls, whether they live in the UK or in India. If you are contacting us for someone else, please let them know. We ask for their agreement before we discuss their health.

What happens when my programme ends?

You can finish there or ask about continuing. We explain the options and the fee before you book anything new.

Your GP stays in charge

Speak to your doctor about new, severe, persistent or worsening digestive symptoms. Do not use a food plan to delay medical assessment or stop prescribed medicines.

For urgent medical advice call NHS 111 (England, Scotland and Wales); in Northern Ireland, call your GP or the GP out-of-hours service. In an emergency call 999.
